THE FLAG
The flag has borrowed the colours and the symbolism from the coat of arms.

THE COAT OF ARMS
The mill-wheel alludes to Melster's old name Mylneceastre, 'the fortified place with a mill', as does the sheaf and wheel on the crest. Two bulls act as supporters.
