THE SOMERISH TEAM
FOR THE SANX 301 WINTER VEXGAMES
Sanx 301 logo by Maximilian Suchy
Somery is not that big a winter sports nation, but still there are regions in the country that get plenty of snow in winter, mainly Lathes Troy in the Angel Mts. In fact, of 52 members of the team, 50 are natives of that region. The only ones from elsewhere are Currill Melraine, from Rowry in Mar, and Elwra Willough, from Farrowdean in Sutherewland.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED BY LATHES TROY'S BOYS!!
With all respect, no miracles are expected from
the Somerish team as they do their part in the
first Winter Vexgames ever, but yesterday, the third day of the games, showed
that Somery did not come to Sanx just to make fools
of themselves. All three Somes participating in the
men's 90 metre ski jump managed to make the top
10 and this is quite an impressive performance
considering the number of jumpers being as high
as 60. Taking the risk of sounding overly enthusiastic,
Shoreigh Weilla was near enough to be sniffing at the
bronze medal, although ending up in the 5th place, with
Embright Ewvil right behind him in 6th. Bras Frewyth
found himself a few steps lower in 10th. All we can do
now is to keep our fingers crossed for even bigger
surprises from our ski-clad boys and girls in the days
to come. Let alone skates and brushes.

SOMERY HOCKEY TEAM OUT WITH A VENGEANCE
The performances of the Somery winter sports team have
been modest with some bright glimpses, like Shoreigh Weilla's
4th place in the ski jump, but when it comes to hockey we
really stink. What was about to happen was quite clear after
the first match against Baben Bay, where we lost 2 - 4. The
performance was not all bad, but Baben Bay was clearly the
better team, which was no real surprise as it was ranked
higher. The real shock came against Westria. The
Somerish team never stood a chance, and a 2 to 11 loss
described quite well the dominance of the other team.

THE HERO FROM TERNHAM
After the disastrous performance by the Somery hockey team,
losing 0 to 4 against Lamb's Cove, and a catastrophic 2 to 11
against Westria, Somery was getting used to the idea of Shoreigh
Weilla's 4th place in the ski jump being the best we would do in
these Vex Games. In from the left comes a young man from the
town of Ternham, Hundred Highdawe, Dellswyshire, and skis his way straight into our hearts. On the eleventh day of the
games Oshean Willern started out tremendously well in the first
run of the Men's Slalom. It would not be an exaggeration to say
that this country stood still during the second run. Willern kept
his cool, and with a superb performance he secured the bronze,
and gives Somery it's first Vex Games medal ever, and its best
achievement so far in international sports.

LADY OF SUTHER TROY
Athough a bronze medal may feel more than a notch better than a 4th
place, Suther Troy also got a heroine of their own after the Norther Troydian
dominance in the Somerish performance at the Vex Games. Wrenna
Morlowe from Tillop, Hundred Highop, Ledgwickshire, showed that
also women are a force to be considered in these games, making
it to just below the rostrum in the women's giant slalom, making her the
most succesfull Somerish woman in international sports so far.

GOLD FOR THE BOLD!!
There has been talk about heroism earlier, but Shoreigh
Weilla, Oshean Willern, and Wrenna Morlowe will have
to excuse us for letting them step down a notch or two
for the King of the Fourteenth day, the gilded Cannard
Sedgwaugh! Seemingly out of the blue he rushes in and
snatches the gold from the favourite of the event, Bowdonia's
Andre Hespert. On top of that it was close to one more medal
but unfortunately Ean Wade didn't quite make it all the way,
and had to be content with an honourable 4th place.
Our reporter talked to Cannard just after the gold medal was
secured.
(R) Congratulations, Cann! How does it feel?
(C) Thank you very much! Well, what can I say? It's incredible,
it still hasn't sunk in yet. I'll probably wake up in the morning,
wondering if it was a all a dream.
(R) But you have a piece of gold to prove it.
(C) Yes, I sure do!
(R) Did you even in your wildest dream expect anything like
this?
(C) Can't say I did. My ambition was getting at least within
the top 10, of course I had hopes of a medal, but what
athlete doesn't. This just exceeds all my hopes and
expectations.
(R) So, what got you in this place?
(C) Hard to tell. I'm obviously at a peak, and everything
has worked out great, training, the mood of the team, the
pepping, and of course the lack of pressure. I guess that's
the advantage of being unknown on the international scene.
During the run itself everything seemed to click. I may
has missed some fractions of a second at some spots, but
evidently nothing worth mentioning, really. In all I'd say
it was a close to perfect run.
(R) Well, we will naturally be expecting more of you in the
future after this.
(C) I have no doubts about that, but I do believe I have the
psychological strength for it. I've always been the stubborn one.
It's a tough event though, and a lot can happen. But anyway,
I wouldn't be in this place without the constant support of
my club at home and my trainer, Perwy Sedgwaugh, who
is actually my dad, and of course, my sponsors.
(R) Is it a good thing to have your dad as a trainer?
(C) Sometimes yes, sometimes no *smile*. But we've always had
a great relationship. He has never pressured me into anything
I didn't want to do, and has always been there for me through
thick and thin. He's my biggest fan, I believe.
(R) And evidently he has passed on some good genes to you.
(C) Yea, *chuckle*, he was one of Lathes Troy's very best some 30
years ago.
(R) So, this is the second medal to Ternham in these games, Oshean
Willern's bronze being the first. What's so special with that place?
(C) Well, hard to tell, really, but skiing has always been a big thing there,
it's basically what we do all winter, we're practically born onto the
skis *hehe*. Joking apart, There's a lot of voluntary work behind it,
parents helping out at no cost, and of course generous contributions from
the Hundred moot and local sponsors, etc.
(R) Apparently it has paid off well. Good luck in the future, I'm sure
the whole country will be following you from now on.
(C) Thanks.
THREE NORTHER TROYDIAN SILVER LADIES
For one day Wrenna Morlowe was the best Somery could offer
on the female side in the games, a very honourable 4th place in
the Women's Giant Slalom. Today, though, the Norther Troyds
once again showed their dominance in the Somerish team, as the trio
Shawra Fruith/Mish Pobith/ Loridea Sheveraugh, all from Hundred
Wendawe, Dellswyshire, took their place on the rostrum after the
women's ski jump team event, making their silver medal
the third Somerish medal in these games. Hats off and bow to these
fabulous women! Somery has definitely not made a fool of itself
in these Vex Games. We are in no way vexed!

ON THE LAST DAYS OF THE SANX VEX GAMES
15TH DAY
---------------
The Somerish hockey team played its last match against
Polaria Islands at the Andersen Ice Rink in Sanxaver.
From what we had seen so far, not much was expected
from the low-spirited players. Polaria is, just like Somery,
not a great hockey nation, and only a few hundred spectators
had shown up to watch this obviously unimportant match. As
a bit of balm in their wounds, Somery won the match, although
unimpressively, 6 goals to 5. If Shoreigh Tewlaugh will stay on
as coach for the team is an open matter. This is after all our
first international tournament, and all of the players were
untried on the big scene. Tewlaugh will probably be given
another chance, but if the boys do not show any improvement
in their next international performance maybe he should
consider another walk of life.
Today's won game prevented Somery from ending up last
in their group.
GROUP C
Westria 3 3 0 0 24- 4 6
Baben Bay 3 2 0 1 10- 7 4
---------------------------------------------
Somery 3 1 0 2 10-19 2
Polaria Islands 3 0 0 3 7-20 0
16TH DAY
---------------
The 16th day of the games brought more joy than the 15th with
Nordic skier Perwy Ellish, native of Ewich-upon-Frothe, neighbouring
town to twice decorated Ternham, Dellswyshire, adding a bronze medal
at the sprint event of 1.5k Freestyle to the Somerish collection, the
second of that value, and the fourth in all.
The foursome making up the national women's curling team,
Mindys Dryne, Nellys Faurbren, Winnideigh Lyden and Mawyre Withall,
all from the Dawes area, did well, and by surprisingly beating the
Davenport team they secured a 5th place in the tournament.
18TH DAY
---------------
A very unexpected and yet very welcome turn came on the 18th
day, as the pride of Ewich-upon-Frothe, Perwy Ellish, added
another medal to the bronze he had already earned, this time,
though, together with Ronnil Crought, Gowen Sheanough and
Seill Pershaugh at the 4x10k Relay. Thanks to (and therefore making the shimmering
of the medal fade a bit) a stomach flu bringing the Cabotenasian
favourites down, the Somerish got their chance at the gold and
took it. Our reporter caught Ellish at the finish.
(R) Congratulations! Finally a gold medal.
(E) Thank you. Yes, this is every athletes dream. Although it would
have been great to have won it under a bit different circumstances.
(R) You mean with the Cabotenasian team knocked down?
(E) Yea. Of course a gold is a gold, and we're all very happy to
have won it, don't get me wrong about that, but it would have been
worth a bit more, having won it against Cabotenasia. Hopefully we'll
get the chance next time.
(R) When did you feel certain about the medal?
(E) Not really until the very finish. Sanx was at our heels most of
the time, and we had to do our very best to keep them behind us.
They had an enormous support of their home audience.
Siall [Pershaugh] had a tremendous finish, he's a stubborn fellow.
I'd say we earned this gold through good team work, everyone doing what
was expected.
(R) And obviously it paid off in a big way. Once again congratulations
to all four of you. And good luck in the future.
(E) Thanks...
The 18th day was apparently Somery's day when it came to relay
races. After the men's gold at 4x10k the women's 4x5 Relay team,
Awdra Cushe, Marleigh Cutheryn, Shirla Gossish and Midgla Wethers,
secured a silver medal, after the very powerful Cabotenasian team.
Impressive!
Unlike the women's team, the men's curling team failed to make the top 6.
This gives the Somerish team a total of 6 medals in the Sanx Vex Games
301, 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes.
